Chapter Three
Chapter three of our textbook introduces us to the concept of a social media
marketing strategy. It is important to construct a strategy because
social media allows corporations to gain a competitive advantage by creating
valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain audiences. A
social media marketing strategy will outline tactics for how a company will
incorporate social media into its business.
The first step in any social media marketing strategy is to identify the
target audience or market. It is important that you choose the correct
demographic to post on to reach your audience. Choosing the correct demographic
can be difficult, but some factors to help you decide would be: Age, Behaviors,
Interests, Education and many more. After collecting this data, group the
target market into three customer personas. A customer persona is defined as
the key traits of a company's target market based on data collected from
existing and target customers.
After you determine your target market, it is important to establish some
goals and objectives. Each goal should be measurable through their objectives
and metrics. It is important to keep in mind that a social media marketing
strategy is only a component of a larger marketing plan. For example, if a corporation's
goal is to increase brand awareness, the social media team's goal should be to
increase brand awareness.
Before reading this chapter, I had very little understanding of how to
create a strategy or how important a strategy is. I see all these TikTok users
gain fame overnight and lose it within the week. I have always been
curious as to how they gain that popularity and let alone hold onto their
fame.

I've had similar thoughts about TikTok stars and social media celebrities. I do wonder if many of them had a strategy in mind before gaining fame or if that came after when they had more of a following and responsibility.
